Cultural Events Communications Coordinator

Reporting to the Executive Director, Salsa in Toronto Festival, and working alongside senior members of the Special Events Team, the successful candidate will support and join a dedicated team of special event professionals to help produce and execute the Salsa in Toronto Festival. Specifically, the candidate will provide assistance in the areas of Public Relations, External Communications, Media Relations, and Social Media promotions for all cultural events and activities of the Festival. The individual will gain direct hands-on experience in a positive and encouraging workplace and will acquire valuable career-related experience in Communications, Public Relations and Marketing.
This is an 8 week term position ending no later than August 30th, 2024.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Write, maintain and update content on internal and external platforms with relevant and timely materials, including media lists, newsletters, press releases, social media, and digital advertising
- Develop, research, manage and design layouts of communications such as newsletters, event support materials, advertisements
- Research and write content for company’s social and digital media platforms
- Work with team to plan and execute cross-promotions both internally and across multimedia platforms
- Track and monitor media and industry activity; prepare campaign measurement and coverage reports
- Update and maintain national and international media list
- Maintain and archive event related clippings and post event coverage
- Assist in development and implementation of the PR strategy for the Festival
- Provide admin support in the development, organization, tracking and execution of local marketing initiatives
- Coordinate and work closely with Marketing on campaigns, events and initiatives
- Assist in the organization of special events
Required Skills
- Experience creating online content, social media and promotion
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office programs
- Knowledge of local Hispanic cultural communities is desired
- Exceptional time management skills – ability to multi-task and work well under deadlines
- Accuracy, attention to detail, strong organizational skills are critical
- Results and performance-driven attitude, an enthusiastic self-starter
- Excellent team player with initiative to complete individual duties and assist in other areas where required
Qualifications
- A Communications, Journalism or Public Relations Degree (or in progress) and or a minimum 1-year related experience
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person to whom Refugee Protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2. Please note: Student or work visa status do not qualify.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment. Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
