Downtown Kitchener BIA and TLN Media Group Partner to Celebrate Día de los Muertos November 2, 2024
(Kitchener, ON – October 17, 2024) TLN Media Group has partnered with the Downtown Kitchener BIA for a vibrant Día de los Muertos celebration on Saturday, November 2, 2024. This family-friendly free event will showcase Mexican and Latin American culture through art, food, music, and joyful festivities, honouring the memory of loved ones who have passed.
Throughout the day, beautifully decorated altars (Ofrendas) will be displayed at various locations, allowing visitors to place mementos and honour the memory of their loved ones. The celebration kicks off at the Kitchener Market (300 King St. E) from 9am to 2pm, featuring food tastings, face painting, live performances, and a colourful parade led by the Mexican Folk Ballet at 2pm. The parade will travel from the Market along King St. E to Queen St. N, ending at Vogelsang Green where festivities continue from 3pm to 8pm, with performances by Mariachi Los Amigos, an artisan market, and more.

Speakers Corner (King/Benton St.): Musical performances by Singer/Songwriter Busta J and a community Ofrenda to honour those who have passed, from 12pm to 5pm.

Matter of Taste (115 King St. W): Enjoy live music by Executive Vibez and indulge in Mexican candy and face painting from 4pm to 8pm.

Goudies Lane (Queen St.): DJ IcePink will keep the energy high with music and more dance lessons from TenC Co. from 5pm to 8pm.

Bobby O’Brien’s + Don Julio Tacos & Tequila Bar (125 King St. W): Groove to DJ beats and a live performance by Mariachi Los Amigos from 5pm to 10pm, with photo ops and a vibrant Ofrenda display.

Casa Toro 88 (28 Benton St.): Visit Casa Toro 88 for face painting (3pm to 8pm) and menu specials featuring traditional atole and pan de dulce and see their beautiful Ofrenda.

Stroll Walking Tours: Discover the cultural significance of Día de los Muertos with a guided walking tour featuring key locations in the downtown area, including the Kitchener Market, Casa Toro 88, and Vogelsang Green. Tours will run at 1:30pm and 3pm.
