Accounting Assistant

Reporting to the Executive Director, Salsa in Toronto Festival, and working alongside senior members of the Finance team, the successful candidate will join a dedicated team of special event professionals to offer key support for various Accounting initiatives related to the Salsa in Toronto Festival, including a range of general clerical, accounting, budgeting, and bookkeeping support functions and liaison with the Sales team. The individual will gain direct and hands-on experience in a positive and encouraging workplace and will acquire valuable career-related work experience in Accounting. This is an 8 week term position ending no later than August 30th, 2024.
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist with general accounts support functions
- Prepare bank deposits, AR posting and reconciliations, and filing of customer documentation.
- Prepare and review budgets and reconciliation of revenues and expenses related to special events
- Maintaining accounting records using both computerized and manual systems
- Assist in month end reporting procedures
- Perform filing and general administrative tasks
- Ensure compliance with all GAAP, GAAS, SOX, pension and privacy legislation
- Respond professionally and courteously to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner and maintain good customer relations
- Assist in the organization of special events
Required Skills
- Strong administrative background with excellent knowledge of MS office
- Confidence in working with multiple software applications
- A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skill with a customer service mindset with ability to manage last minute details, be versatile and flexible with multiple demands
- Solution oriented with problem solving ability
- Strong initiative and self-motivated
- Ability to work under the pressures of tight deadlines and multitask
- Ability to work both independently and on a team
- An enthusiastic, friendly attitude contributing to a friendly respectful workplace.
Qualifications
- Accounting or Finance Degree (or in progress) and or a minimum of 1-year experience in the general accounting field
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
- Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person to whom Refugee Protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2. Please note: Student or work visas status do not qualify.
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment. Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
