Accounting Assistant

Toronto, ON

Reporting to the Executive Director, Salsa in Toronto Festival, and working alongside senior members of the Finance team, the successful candidate will join a dedicated team of special event professionals to offer key support for various Accounting initiatives related to the Salsa in Toronto Festival, including a range of general clerical, accounting, budgeting, and bookkeeping support functions and liaison with the Sales team. The individual will gain direct and hands-on experience in a positive and encouraging workplace and will acquire valuable career-related work experience in Accounting. This is an 8 week term position ending no later than August 30th, 2024.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist with general accounts support functions
  • Prepare bank deposits, AR posting and reconciliations, and filing of customer documentation.
  • Prepare and review budgets and reconciliation of revenues and expenses related to special events
  • Maintaining accounting records using both computerized and manual systems
  • Assist in month end reporting procedures
  • Perform filing and general administrative tasks
  • Ensure compliance with all GAAP, GAAS, SOX, pension and privacy legislation
  • Respond professionally and courteously to internal and external customer inquiries in a timely manner and maintain good customer relations
  • Assist in the organization of special events

 

Required Skills

  • Strong administrative background with excellent knowledge of MS office
  • Confidence in working with multiple software applications
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skill with a customer service mindset with ability to manage last minute details, be versatile and flexible with multiple demands
  • Solution oriented with problem solving ability
  • Strong initiative and self-motivated
  • Ability to work under the pressures of tight deadlines and multitask
  • Ability to work both independently and on a team
  • An enthusiastic, friendly attitude contributing to a friendly respectful workplace.

 

Qualifications

  • Accounting or Finance Degree (or in progress) and or a minimum of 1-year experience in the general accounting field
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or person to whom Refugee Protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act2. Please note: Student or work visas status do not qualify.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment. Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

TLN Media Group Brings the Best of Italian Cinema to the Big Screen at Cineplex Theatres Across Canada Starting January 20th


TORONTO, ON – (January 12, 2024)Established in 1984, TLN Media Group has been at the forefront of delivering diverse and enriching content to audiences across Canada. In honour of its 40th anniversary, the network has planned a series of initiatives celebrating multiculturalism. Kicking off this milestone year is an exciting venture— a year-long series of special film screenings showcasing Canada's most extensive collection of recent, never-before-seen Italian films, complete with English subtitles for an inclusive experience. 

In collaboration with Cineplex, TLN Media Group is set to bring this cinematic celebration to audiences in 10 Canadian cities. The program starts on January 20th and 22nd, featuring the hysterical Italian comedy The Boss and the Cutie (Rosanero). Rising figure in a Neapolitan organized crime gang Totò (Salvatore Esposito) and fifth grade school-girl Rosetta (Fabiana Martucci), find themselves in a crazy twist of fate when they awaken in the hospital to discover that they are trapped in each other's bodies... and hilarity ensues.

Additional upcoming films include:

  • The Bride in Red (Sposa in Rosso), a heart-warming rom-com that is guaranteed to make you leave the theatre smiling as a single mother and a journalist plan a fake wedding to help ease their financial constraints.
  • The Predators (I Predatori) which won the Horizons Award for Best Screenplay at the Venice International Film Festival - a lighthearted comedy that aims to unite two politically polar opposite families in the city of Rome
  • The side-splitting comedy Drive Me Crazy (Con chi viaggi), that take us on the road trip of a lifetime where four strangers meet through an app for a car share ride.
  • Ice (Ghiaccio), a gripping drama directed by Fabrizio Moro and Alessio de Leonardis which won Vinicio Marchioni the BIFEST Best Actor Award.

final. A historic victory for a team that thanks to its remarkable cohesion managed

to overcome all the difficulties encountered on the path to ultimate victory.


We retrace the story of that magical month, between June and July 2006, through

the voices of the head coach and the players who achieved the feat, along with

those of international journalists and players.

October is a significant month for Hispanic/Spanish-speaking communities worldwide, and the government of Canada has designated it as Latin American Heritage Month. As Canada's most influential multicultural media leader, TLN Media Group celebrates Latin American Heritage Month with a series of initiatives, special programming, and theatrical premiere screenings of original documentaries at Toronto's Latin American Film Festival (LATAFF). This celebration honors the rich tapestry of Latinx cultures, countries, and people for their significant social, economic, and political contributions to our nation.

TLN Media Group supports and showcases Canada's over 1.6 million Spanish-speaking communities year-round, a commitment we've upheld for nearly four decades. However, we acknowledge the significance of October in amplifying voices and shining a spotlight on the diverse aspects of Latino culture. This celebration enriches Canada's cultural mosaic, fostering opportunities for cross-cultural appreciation and understanding. The month-long parade of celebratory events features the 15th annual TLN Top 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians Award Ceremony.

TLN Original | 1943: Operation Husky

The Canadian Landing in Sicily On July 10, 1943, more than 25,000 men from the 1st Canadian Infantry Division landed in Pachino, Italy, marking the beginning of the Sicilian campaign. The project, dubbed Operation Husky, represented the first independent role in the Second World War for Canadian soldiers who were successful in knocking down German defenses in Sicily.

The Indestructible Abbey


This documentary seeks to tell the story of the historic Battle of Monte Cassino, one of the most important military operations of World War II through the eyes of the last surviving Italian immigrants, who fled war-torn Italy for Canada.


TLN Original | ORTONA: Canada's Stalingrad


This special documentary project is part of TLN’s “I remember” series intended to collect the still vivid memories of a generation of now older Italian Canadians, who witnessed the savagery of war and sacrifice, first hand. In this series, the last living Italian-Canadian survivors, recount the Battle of Ortona, one of the most important military operations of WWII, that took place between December 20 to 28th in 1943.

TLN Original | San Pietro Infine


San Pietro Infine is a small town in the Province of Caserta which endured bitter fighting in December 1943. Untouched for 75 years, the gates to a forgotten city will be opened and the last living Italian-Canadian survivors will recount the significant battle of San Pietro Infine.

The TLN 10 Most Influential Hispanic Canadians awards ceremony is just around the corner! This prestigious event, which celebrates the outstanding contributions of Hispanic Canadians to various fields, will take place during Latin American Heritage Month. It's a fitting occasion to recognize the remarkable impact these individuals have had on Canadian society.
