The month of June is Italian Heritage Month, and from June 9 to 19, the 48th Annual Italian Week Ottawa Festival took place on Preston Street.
Italian Week Ottawa began as a way to preserve and promote the traditions of Italians and educate the community about Italian culture. Celebrations usually include a mix of initiatives involving art, opera, singing, and authentic Italian food and wine.
As a Festival Ambassador, Antonio Giorgi was present for the event; in the video below, he was able to showcase the most memorable moments from the week.

Ahead of the Canadian Multiculturalism Day, TLN TV’s Camila Gonzalez was able to provide us with a memorable moment where the culinary world and the House of Commons met. Member of Provincial Parliament Stan Cho shared his take on two popular rice dishes from the Willowdale neighbourhood; the first being Nurungi (Korean) and the second being Tahdig (Persian). Although the preparation for each may be slightly different, the outcome is similarly delicious – food will always be a connector that unites countries and cultures.
TLN Media Group was a Proud National Partner of the 2022 Gutsy Walk in support of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
This is the largest single day fundraiser for Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis; both inflame the lining of the gastrointestinal tract and disrupt the body’s ability to digest food, absorb nutrition, and eliminate waste in a healthy manner.
Tens of thousands of Canadians took part in this year’s Gutsy Walk, with over 60 locations from coast-to-coast, and the organization raised $2.2 million as a result – all of which will go to funding inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) research and patient support programs.

Cavalleria Rusticana - Fleck Dance Theater - Toronto City Opera
TLN Media Group, in collaboration with the Toronto City Opera and Villa Charities, presented Cavalleria Rusticana on June 2, 4 & 5 at the Fleck Dance Theatre in celebration of Italian Heritage Month.
Cavalleria Rusticana is an homage to the 300,000 Italian Canadian immigrants in the 1950s, highlighting all the culture, traditions and conflicts of that time. Majority of these individuals found solace and support in the growing community clustered along College Street east and west of Bathurst, and this show – described as an operatic masterpiece of singularly outsized proportions – focused on them.
In recognition of Villa Charities Inc.’s 50th Anniversary, the founders hosted a private celebratory dinner at the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery in the Columbus Centre to welcome new President & CEO Marco DeVuono.

June is seniors’ month in Ontario and now more than ever, members of our elderly community are in need of support. TLN Media Group’s commitment to seniors is at the core of its community building and today the network announced the launch of its annual month-long multilingual Elder Abuse Prevention Public Service Announcement campaign running across all its platforms.
TLN Media Group has produced 30-second PSA messages in English, Spanish, and Italian languages, with the national campaign broadcasting on TLN Television, Univision Canada, and Mediaset Italia TV channels with corresponding online content on respective digital platforms.
The year’s focus is on raising awareness and helping with the prevention of financial abuse toward senior citizens. Financial abuse is the most common form of elder abuse in Canada, where 1 in 5 seniors experience being taken advantage of in theft, and fraud, among others Abusers can be people who are close to their victims such as a family member, or they may be professional criminals who target the elderly via phone or the internet. Whether misusing or stealing a senior’s assets or forcing them to sign legal documents they do not understand, it is important to recognize that the abuse is not acceptable.
TLN Media Group is dedicated to the well-being of seniors across Canada and our goal is to provide awareness of financial abuse targeting seniors in an effort against fraud and financial exploitation and to ensure that we are looking after some of the most vulnerable members of our communities. Ciro Immobile scored 27 goals in 31 appearances over the course of the 2021-22 Serie A season. As a result of this tally, the Lazio striker secured his fourth Capocannoniere scoring title; he made history as the only Italian to ever accomplish such a feat.

Taking a look Immobile’s goals this season, he netted two hat-tricks, two braces, and found the back of the net in 22 of 31 fixtures he took part in. In addition, he scored 15 goals away from home and scored 12 goals at home. However, which five goals were the most memorable?
Matchday 2 | Lazio vs Spezia | 6-1
In the 15′ at the Stadio Olimpico against Spezia, Immobile scored his second of the match (2-1) with a sumptuous strike after an instinctive play from Luis Alberto. The striker went on to net a hat-trick against the Ligurians.
Matchday 11 | Atalanta vs Lazio | 2-2
In the 74′ at the Gewiss Stadium against Atalanta, Immobile scored to give Lazio a 2-1 lead. Pedro rushed forward, found Toma Basic, and the Croatian centered the ball to the striker who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.
In the 35′ at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza against Inter, Immobile scored to level the score at 1-1. Off of a free-kick, Danilo Cataldi quickly took advantage of the unprepared Nerazzurri backline and found the Italian in space. He dodged Samir Handanovic and slotted the ball into an open net.
Matchday 32 | Genoa vs Lazio | 1-4
In the 45’+1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris against Genoa, Immobile scored to give Lazio a 2-0 advantage over the Rossoblu.Manuel Lazzari used his pace to get around the full-back, found the striker in space, and fired a shot passed Salvatore Sirigu in goal.

TLN Exclusive Interview With Milan Defender Fikayo Tomori
In the final round of the 2021-22 Serie A season, Sassuolo hosted Milan at the Mapei Stadium in a Scudetto-deciding fixture. As they sat atop of the table by two points, a draw was enough to secure the title over rivals Inter; they defeated the Neroverdi by a score of 3-0 to win the league for the first time since 2010-11.
TLN TV Host Camila Gonzalez was present for the Serie A clash. Following the scenes of jubilation and the Scudetto celebrations, she was able to exclusively interview Fikayo Tomori to discuss his thoughts and feelings on the achievement, the Rossoneri’s season, and his Canadian fans.
Fikayo Tomori: Career & Statistics
24-year-old Tomori currently plays for Serie A side Milan. He joined the Rossoneri on loan from Premier League side Chelsea in January 2021 and officially signed for the club on a permanent deal in July 2021 ($31.68m).
To date, the Canadian-born centre-back has made 62 appearances for the club in all competitions; during the 2021-22 campaign, Tomori was a pillar in Stefano Pioli‘s starting eleven, making 31 league appearances (30 starts) – only Mike Maignan (2880) had played more minutes than the defender (2719). As a result, the club experienced their best defensive record in a decade and conceded just two times in their final 11 Serie A fixtures.
Described as a modern centre-back who puts pressure high up the pitch to allow the team to put pressure on their opponent, Tomori is also good at anticipating the play to win the ball back. He recorded the most tackles (73) and interceptions (45) for Milan this season and was second to Olivier Giroud in aerials won with 51.

After winning four promotions to Serie A with Pescara, Carpi, Brescia, and Empoli, this season, the captain of the club had a different task this year – helping his side retain their Italian top-flight status. In doing so, he also fulfilled an ambition – scoring his first goal in the competition.
