For over 30 years, ItalfestMTL has honored the beauty and riches of Italy in its beloved metropolis. Italians and non-Italians alike will gather for the festivities from August 2-11 to live the Dolce Vita. As Canada’s largest curator of Italian films and producer of Original Canadian multicultural content with a catalogue of hundreds of hours, TLN will also feature two Original documentaries as part of this year’s festival:

Le Ciociare (Land of Thorns)

Casa D'Italia | Aug 5 at 7:30P

Centre Leonardo Da Vinci | Aug 9 at 7:30P

Directed by Montreal naitive Anthony Sarracco, "Le Ciociare" delves deep into a shadowed chapter of World War II, illuminating the harrowing experiences of Italian women who endured brutal violations at the hands of the Goumiers soldiers following the Battle of Cassino. Through intimate testimonies of the last surviving victims, archival footage, and expert analysis, this powerful documentary seeks to give voice to the silent sufferers of history, revealing the heartbreaking paradox of liberation that came at an unthinkable personal cost. The story underscores the complex tapestry of war, where liberators can also be oppressors, and heroes may hide dark secrets.

1994

Centre Leonardo Da Vinci | Aug 7 at 6:30P

Casa D'Italia | Aug 8 at 7:30P

A TLN Original, directed by Montreal native Anthony Sarracco, this harrowing drama takes place in the wake of Baggio's heart-wrenching 1994 World Cup miss where a man finds himself trapped in the grip of "Peter Pan syndrome," a relentless pursuit to dodge the trappings of adulthood. As the years go by, his obsession with eternal youth brings laughter and pain, challenging him to weigh the allure of everlasting childhood against the responsibilities and rewards of grown-up life. In this journey of self-discovery, he must confront the delicate balance between cherishing memories and embracing the present, all while questioning the actual cost of never wanting to grow up
