Former Member of the Quebec National Assembly, Rita de Santis shares her immigration story.
Born in Abruzzo, Italy and arriving in Halifax with her family in 1958, Rita’s family settled in Quebec soon after. She excelled in academics from an early age and recalls her father telling her that she could do anything if she “dreamed big and worked hard”. Rita went on to graduate from McGill University with a law degree. An invitation to a fundraising event for the Quebec Liberal Party turned out to be pivotal for her career, setting the path for her involvement in politics and her philanthropic endeavours.
