The Canadian Men’s National Soccer Team first qualified for the World Cup in 1986. Since that historic moment, soccer in the country has overcome numerous obstacles and decades of disappointment. With every new generation comes young players of diverse backgrounds and identities who all have the same dream – to make history as they represent The Reds.

TLN Media Group’s Original Documentary ‘Heart of Goal: The Rise of Canadian Soccer‘, follows the story of Jonathan Osorio and his teammates on their quest to qualify for a World Cup after 36 years, while also portraying a powerful story of multiculturalism. A first-generation Canadian, Osorio’s family immigrated from Colombia to Brampton, Ontario – a city that had a big influence not only in his soccer journey but also on the future of Canadian soccer as the new epicentre of world-class players. Osorio’s passion for the beautiful game started at a very young age, and at 17 years old, he moved to Uruguay for two years to play in a prestigious soccer academy; an experience that would have a lasting impact on his soccer journey. It was this time away from his home in Canada that made him realize that what he wanted was to represent his country. And so began his journey to change Canadian soccer forever.

As Canada’s Multicultural Media Leader, it is with great pride that TLN Media Group tells the stories of the immigrant communities we have served for nearly four decades, through authentic and diverse voices. TLN TV has a longstanding tradition of broadcasting the biggest soccer tournaments and leagues from around the world and is proud to showcase this original production as part of the network’s “Soccermania Specials” from November 13, 2022, to December 18, 2022, in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“This film is an ode to the Canadian dream. It’s a story of believing in yourself even when all the odds are against you. As the World Cup gets closer, Canadians across the country will be inspired to dream big! Even if you aren’t a soccer fan now, Heart of Goal will convince you to become one,” said producer Camila Gonzalez.

In addition to Osorio, the all-star lineup features Cyle Larin, Doneil Henry, Lucas Cavallini, Bob Lenarduzzi, Carl Valentine, Melissa Tancredi, and other renowned characters from the world of Canadian Soccer. As our Men’s National Team prepares for the tournament, we are excited for Canadians and the world to watch our country fall in love with the ‘Beautiful Game’!
